Led the integrative planning process and programme to lift the strategic planning of the custodial sites for Corrections. I had to start developing relationships from scratch and build Department-wide recognition and support for the work. Early outputs have set the high-standard of work, supported broader outputs within the Asset Management portfolio. The role involved developing the requirements, writing the RFI and RFP, leading the procurement processes and initiating this new and exciting programme for the Department. Additionally I supported development of the wider team, created the and shared my experience to advance the Strategic Asset Management team’s outputs.

Subject Matter Expert and recognised thought leader for Estate and Strategic Planning within NZDF. Leading simultaneous complex programmes* and supporting senior leadership briefings to service leadership boards, Ministers and organisation leadership team. Responsible for the planning, development and delivery of the Estate Regeneration Plan (>2bn NZD). Led small, highly regarded, team.
Programmes included: Infrastructure Master Planning, Defence Estate Regeneration Programme, Horizontal Infrastructure Investment Programme, Operational Maritime Infrastructure.

Procurement and delivery of a national contract for master planning for the national Defence Estate. Led delivery and engagement of stakeholder workshops, introducing innovative approaches to gather information. Delivered a critical decision analysis tool to support investment decisions. Sole POC for key information supporting project planning and delivery.

Worked within the Bridges Department, supporting modelling and calculations for bridge decks and componentry. Also led the bridge launch calculations for Pedestrian Bridge for Olympic Games including secondary hand-calculations.

Modules included applied mechanics, design and management, contracts and contract law, environmental science, soil engineering, structures, surveying and thermodynamics.
Final year, MEng Research and Development Topic: Macroscopic Traffic Flow Model Validation. A development of complex computational model for Aston Expressway.
The course at Durham was one of only a few in the UK that allowed budding engineers to study all engineering topics prior to specialising in Year 2 – this gave me a greater appreciation of the dependencies and considerations between disciplines. It was the genesis of my systems-engineering mindset.
